6 arrested in operation to stop New Year's celebratory gunfire

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A total of 6 men were arrested Thursday night during an operation to prevent people from bringing in the new year by firing guns instead of fireworks in the Caddo Parish - Shreveport area.

One of the men arrested was 45-year-old Robert Allen.

Police found Allen with a gun in the backseat of a car at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Peach Street. According to the police, there was a 10-year-old child in the backseat with him, as well as an unrestrained infant and man and woman in the front seat.

One officer grabbed Allen's hand in an attempt to physically disarm him. Another officer moved the 10-year-old to safety and got into the backseat to shield the infant.

After he was disarmed, police arrested Allen and charged him being a felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

One of the officers was examined at the hospital for an injury received during the arrest.

In addition to Allen, police say 5 others were also arrested during the operation.

Albert Battson, 36 was charged with felon in possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Damario Hamilton, 29, was arrested for allegedly being in possession of marijuana a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance.

Jeremy Hopkins, 29 is facing charges for felon in possession of a firearm.

Tarenzo Davenport, 18, is accused of being in possession of marijuana and Valium.

Travante Myles, 22, was arrested as an instate fugitive.

Agents with the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotic Task Force Street Level Interdiction Unit (SLIU) conducted the operation.
