NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A Natchitoches couple is facing drug possession and conspiracy charges after police say they worked to sell large amounts of synthetic marijuana while one of them was in jail.
During a probation check for 40-year-old Brandon Leron Garrett on November 5, officers say they found 63 individual 10-20 oz. packages of suspected synthetic marijuana, 11 grams of high-grade marijuana, 2 hand guns, $1,880.00 U.S. currency, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia used in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.
The illegal items were seized from the house in the 100 block of Antley Road where Garrett lived with his partner, 30-year-old Felicia Pattain.
Garrett was arrested for probation violation, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pattain was arrested for simple possession of marijuana. She was released on November 6, but Garrett was still in Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
The Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force agents continued to investigate the pair after they received information that they were still conspiring to distribute synthetic marijuana. Agents say Garrett was giving orders to Pattain from behind bars.
On November 13, agents searched the couple's house in the 100 block of Antley Road again and found 15 packages with 10 oz. of synthetic marijuana hidden in a mattress.
Task force agents later found Pattain in a vehicle and seized 3 sealed packages of suspected synthetic marijuana and $1,684.
Further investigation found the pair had access to a storage unit with an additional 12 sealed packages of suspected synthetic marijuana.
As a result, Garrett was charged with another count of possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana and conspiracy to distribute synthetic marijuana.
Pattain was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, conspiracy to distribute synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Brandon Garrett still being held in the Natchitoches Detention Center with a bond of $48,000 in addition to a probation hold. Pattain was released on a $21,000 bond on November 25.
