SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - The holiday shopping season means the Shreveport and Bossier City police departments will once again be activating their armed robbery task forces.

Officers assigned to the task force will patrol businesses and busy shopping centers in both cities to provide an increased law enforcement presence in and around those locations.

The main goal of the task force is to prevent armed robberies and other crimes by keeping criminals guessing if a business they are considering to target will have an officer close by and ready to respond.

Police hope their presence will not only help suppress crime, but also minimize the fear and negative perception associated with crime through a working partnership between police and the local business community.

Overtime expenses to fund the task force are covered by a grant from the United States Justice Department.
