Police have released surveillance video from the armed robbery of a Shreveport liquor store that left an armed security guard and former SPD officer dead.
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The deadly shooting happened on Friday, Oct. 16. Officers were called just after 10 p.m. to the Thrifty Liquor store in the 8400 block of Linwood Avenue for a report of an armed robbery with shots fired.
As officers responded to the scene, it was learned an unidentified man armed with a handgun entered the business and confronted an armed security officer working inside the store. During the encounter, the gunman fired a round from his weapon and struck the security officer, who has since been identified as 56-year old Michael Wayne Henry of Shreveport. Henry was struck once in the upper body and died shortly after arrival at a local hospital.
Following his shooting of Henry, the gunman robbed the store and took off running southbound. Police say he is believed to have gotten into a waiting silver or gray Lincoln Town Car with a black roof, driven by another man.
Portions of surveillance video from the business have been released to the public in effort to identify the perpetrator of the robbery and murder.
Detectives have reason to suspect the offender is from the local area and may be responsible for other crimes against businesses in the recent past.
