Carthage high school student seriously injured in collision with train

CARTHAGE, TX (KSLA) - A Carthage high school student was seriously injured Monday when his pickup truck was struck by a train.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. on South Shelby St. in Carthage. Police now say LaGrone was trying to beat the train when his pickup truck was struck.

Carthage Police Chief Jim Vanover told KGAS that the collision sent the pickup truck into a ditch and left the sole occupant of the vehicle seriously injured.

According to KGAS, the driver was 16-year-old Hunter LaGrone.

He was flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where he is in intensive care and will require surgery.
