Authorities catch accused killer seeking safe haven in AR town

MURFREESBORO, AR (KSLA) - A suspected killer on the run from California is behind bars in Pike County, Ark.

Jimmy Ray Ramos, aka Ronny Ramos, is wanted in California in connection with a fatal stabbing. The 30-year-old Porterville, Calif., resident is being held in Pike County Detention Facility in Murfreesboro, Ark., pending his extradition back home.

The Pike County sheriff's office received a call from a homicide investigator in California the afternoon of Oct. 6 informing authorities here that there was an outstanding warrant with a $1,000,000 bond for a fugitive who possibly was hiding in Glenwood, Ark.

Armed with a copy of the warrant and a photo of Ramos, Sheriff Charlie Caldwell called a meeting with interim Glenwood Police Chief Jerry Lowery and Chief Deputy David Shelby, of the sheriff's office, to devise a a plan to ascertain Ramos' location.

"With tremendous community effort involved in identifying the individual, as he had been seen around town, officers confirmed the location of the wanted subject," says a statement released today by Caldwell's office. A tactical response unit took Ramos into custody without incident in the residence he was using as a safe haven, the statement continues.

The unit consisted of the Pike County sheriff's deputies, Glenwood police officers and Arkansas state troopers with medical support from Guardian EMS.
