TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - A water plant in Texarkana is under control after an explosion caused an electrical outage early Saturday morning.

It happened at the Texarkana Water Utilities treatment plant on New Boston Road just before 7:00 a.m.

The plant serves both Texarkana, Texas and Arkansas.

The blast is blamed on a pump that heated up and melted a portion of the motor.

The facilities executive director says the explosion is not expected to impact water customers, but it did blow out some of the windows.

Maintenance personnel was called in to assess the damage, bring another plant on Millwood up to full capacity, and repair the equipment at the New Boston Road location where the explosion happened.

The director says all operations should be back to normal soon.
