SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - It's time to pull out the barbecue pits, light up the fireworks and dress head to toe in your best red, white and blue. Americans love to celebrate our nation's freedom in so many different ways. Here is a look at some of the events and celebrations that will happen this weekend around the ArkLaTex.
Daingerfield State Park is hosting its first annual 4th of July Dutch Oven Cook Off and kayak race. The cooking will start at 9 a.m. and the categories are main dish, dessert and 18 and under. The race will be at 10 a.m.
There will be a fireworks show and boat parade at Lake Claiborne Saturday starting at 7 p.m. The fireworks will be shot from Lake Claiborne Dam and will begin at dark around 9 p.m.
Harrison County criminal defense lawyers will hold the second annual public reading of the Declaration of Independence July 2 at 11:30 a.m. The reading will be in front of the Harrison County courthouse at 200 W. Houston in Marshall. The public is invited.
Celebrate Independence Day in Louisiana's oldest community along the banks of the scenic Cane River Lake during the "Celebrations on the Cane." There will be a full day of activities including the Cane River Green Market, live musical entertainment, the delicious food vendors, amusements for kids of all ages and a spectacular fireworks show over the Cane River Lake. This event is free and open to the public and the all day event begins at 8 a.m.
Sam's Town Casino will have a Fourth of July T-shirt giveaway celebration and fireworks show July 3 and 4. On July 3, you have to earn 500 points to receive your free T-shirt. There will be rooftop fireworks and "Purple Reign" on July 4. Don't forget to wear your shirt.
The Independence Day Festival will be held at Festival Plaza in Downtown Shreveport. There will be live musical guest, local vendors and fun for the entire family. The festival kicks off at 2 p.m. Festival Plaza is located at 101 Crockett St.
Great Raft Brewing will hold their 2nd Annual Independence Day Festivities by mixing a little barbecue and brew! Enjoy live music from local artist Chris DeRosia and Daniel Goodwill from Hwy Lions, The Seratones and many more. There will be gourmet hot dogs from the Missing Link, Brew B Q from Bohemian Pork and a lot of Great Raft Beer. This year also kicks off with another cornhole tournament. The cost is $20 and you can purchase your ticket here. Great Raft is located at 1251 Dalzell St.
Looking to get a good workout in Saturday? The Firecracker 5K Run is where you need to be. Sportspectrum will kick off the holiday with the 31st annual Firecracker 5K run sponsored by Spine Institute of Louisiana Foundation in Shreveport, LA. The race starts at 7:30 am on Saturday, July 4th with the kids' half-mile fun run. At 8 am the 5K and Healthwalk will begin. All the fun begins in the parking lot behind Sears at Mall St. Vincent. A portion of the proceeds of this year's event will benefit spine research at the Spine Institute of Louisiana Foundation. Mall St. Vincent is located at 1133 St. Vincent Ave.
The east and west locations of Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport will hold July 4th balloon release events from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be musical entertainment, remarks by local clergy and refreshments. The launching of balloons, which visitors can personalize with messages, will take place at 10:30 a.m.
There will be a Fourth of July fireworks display at the end of Vine Street in Sarepta. Free hot dogs and drinks, water slides and bounce houses for the children. Freddy Robinson Ban will perform. The festivities kick off at 6 pm on July 4th.
The annual Sparks in the Park event has been canceled due to weather.
