SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police have released the names of the 5 arrested in an early morning raid on a suspected drug house during which a suspect shot at an officer.

It started just after 6 a.m. at a home in the 5000 block of Roberts Street in Shreveport's Mooretown neighborhood.

Authorities say they had been working for some time gathering information and evidence suggesting the sale and purchase of illegal narcotics had been taking place inside the home and that multiple firearms were also present.

According to police, agents with the Caddo-Shreveport Drug Task Force surrounded the house in the process of executing a search warrant and someone inside fired a single shot with a high-powered rifle.

The shot barely missed agents, but there was no return fire and no one was injured.

Police later explained why the officers did not shoot back.

"You have to weigh heavily on your training and its discipline," said Corporal Marcus Hines with Shreveport Police. "If you can't see the target you're not just going to randomly start firing off rounds. I mean, you have to be accountable for each round that you fire."

Police say they found drugs inside the house, including Oxycontin, Oxycodone, cocaine, Ecstasy, marijuana and Xanax tablets.

Agents also seized cash, along with 2 high powered rifles and 2 handguns from inside the home.

Agents ultimately arrested 27-year-old Veon Alexander of Shreveport, who is charged with attempted first degree murder of a police officer, possession of schedule one and two narcotics with intent to distribute.

Also arrested were 26-year-old Kendrick Wilson, 24-year-old Cary Davis and 28-year-old Courtney Scott. All are facing drug charges and being felons in possession of weapons.

20-year-old Monica Lawson is also facing drug charges.

Investigators credit neighbors for alerting them to the suspected illegal activity in the house.
