Shreveport gospel singer dies, loved ones remember her legacy
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Popular Shreveport gospel singer Stephanie Dotson died suddenly Monday. She not only graced the airways, but also the big screen.
Now, those close to her are remembering her life and legacy.
"She said if you pray your way out of it and sing your way out of it, everything will turn around," said Cherika Anderson, Dotson's roommate.
After succumbing to a heart condition, Stephanie Dotson's family and friends are looking to God and each other for comfort after her sudden death. Nikisha Dotson-Smith is heartbroken over the loss of her sister.
"Most people know her through the Tyler Perry movies, her singing, and the CD's that were put out," said Dotson-Smith.
But Dotson-Smith says she wants her sister to be remembered not only for her talents, but also for the type of person she was.
"I want everybody to remember her as an angel, a gift, a loyal person," she said.
"She was a mighty woman of prayer," said Anderson. "She used to always say, we the ya-yas, we had just a very special bond."
Dotson loved worshiping God and was a very loyal member of her church.
"She is someone who loved life, who loved God," said Dotson-Smith.
While they know it will be tough without her, her family and friends are looking above for strength.
"It's going to be hard, but I know God is and she's watching over me," said Anderson.
Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral will be celebrating Dotson's life this Friday, February 27 at 7p.m. with a musical tribute.
Stephanie's home going ceremony will be Saturday, February 28 at noon.
