MANSFIELD, LA (KSLA) - The Mansfield man accused of disarming an officer and fleeing while in handcuffs earlier this week has been arrested.

Mansfield police say 34-year-old Kory Wyatt was booked into the DeSoto Parish Detention Center after turning himself in around 10 a.m. Friday. Police say Wyatt's family helped facilitate the arrest.

The incident happened Sunday evening when police say Wyatt allegedly threatened someone who then went to police. When authorities went to arrest Wyatt, he reportedly ran from the officer.

Officer Jason Ambrose caught up with Wyatt in a nearby yard where Ambrose and Wyatt reportedly got into a tussle. After being handcuffed and while being escorted to Ambrose's cruiser, Wyatt reportedly grabbed the officer's gun and fled the scene.

Assistant Police Chief Gary Hobbs says that Wyatt eventually turned the gun over to his mother who then called police to return the firearm.

Wyatt, who has a criminal history, was out on parole after serving seven years for drug-related charges. He is being charged with simple assault, disarming a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
