Arrest warrant issued for suspect accused of shooting 9-year-old girl

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police have issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Deondre Jenkins for his alleged role in a shoot-out Monday afternoon.

It happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of Melanie Lane. When officers arrived, they found a 9-year-old girl who had been shot in the leg while reportedly riding in a car along with several adults. The child is recovering at University Health with what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

One woman says she saw it all go down right in front of her and her children.

"It was like a war zone, it was a lot of shooting," said Miranda Powers.

Powers says she couldn't believe what she was seeing when 19 shots rang out on her street. She says she saw one man shooting at a car as it traveled down the street.

"They should understand by now that it's always a child or someone innocent that has nothing to do with the situation that always getting hurt," said Powers.

Police say they found shell casings from at least two different weapons.

Authorities have secured an arrest warrant for Deondre Jenkins charging him with one count of attempted first degree murder. His bond is set at $150,000.
