NATCHITOCHES, LA (KSLA) - Oklahoma may have the cheapest gas in years, but in Natchitoches, it was even cheaper. A KSLA News 12 crew was there when the lines backed up to the highway, before the mistake was noticed.
"Filled my truck up for about $3," one lucky customer said at the pump.
It's unheard of to fill up a pickup truck in this day and age. At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, people were lining up and traffic was backed up to the highway.
"I just pulled up and just paid, and that's what happened," another customer said.
All because it only cost 29 cents a gallon to fill up with supreme.
"Facebook, Instagram, social media," explained one customer about where he found out about the fluke.
There was a steady stream of customers filling up at the Chevron all day, and people filling up gas cans more than usual.
"Three dollars, everybody was $3 to fill up. No more than $10," said Briana Rachal, the Chevron attendant.
Gas station attendants say the pumps went haywire, and there is no other explanation for why the prices were so low.
And the kicker?
"It's been since this morning, all day," Rachal said.
The station opened at 6 a.m. Wednesday, and until about 2 p.m., customers could buy supreme gas for just 29 cents.
"And they filled up everywhere. Gas cans, boats, everything," Rachal said.
Not everyone got a chance to take advantage of the super low prices.
"I wish I did," said one unlucky customer.
"I wish I would've," Rachal said.
The gas station was not sure how many gallons were pumped before the mistake was noticed, and it is unclear how much money the mistake cost the business.
