RED RIVER PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A car crash in Red River Parish has claimed the life of one person.

It happened just before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Louisiana State Police responded to the 3-vehicle crash on US Highway 71, just south of Louisiana Highway 784.

Preliminary reports suggest that a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic driven by 44-year-old Salley Giddens of Coushatta was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn into a private drive when she was struck from behind by a 2012 Dodge Avenger driven by 43-year-old Tracy Dickson of Campti. The collision pushed Giddens' vehicle into the southbound lane, directly into the path of a 2009 Toyota Tundra driven by 24-year-old Derril Blanchard of Campti causing a head-on collision.

Troopers say Giddens was not wearing her seat belt and died as a result of her injuries.

Routine toxicology samples were taken from all three drivers and were submitted for analysis.

On Wednesday, authorities charged Dickson with careless operation.
