Names released of 5 people killed in Hope, Arkansas crash

HOPE, AR (KSLA) - Arkansas State Police are investigating a wreck in Hope that left 5 people dead.

It happened just before 7:00 Tuesday evening on I-30 east near mile marker 31. The wreck involved an 18-wheeler and a minivan. All 5 victims were in the minivan.

Arkansas State Police's crash report says that a Dodge van driven by 77-year-old Ronald Pate of Indiana, was traveling east in the right lane partially on the shoulder when it reportedly made a sudden left turn into the semi truck. The truck struck the driver's side of the van pushing the van into the median between eastbound and westbound routes of I-30.

Pate was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, Phillip Pate, 81, Connie Richards, 69, Gloria Bryant, 70, and Donna Pate, 75, all of Indiana, also died as a result of the wreck.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Sheldon Schultz, 32 of Wisconsin, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
