SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The 4th Annual “Battle on the Border” High School Showcase kicked off with its annual press conference Monday Morning.
On Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th, 12 teams from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama will square off at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.
This year's “Battle on the Border” will feature teams from Arkansas and Alabama for the first time.
Friday's double-header features St. Thomas More High School traveling from Lafayette, LA to face Galdewater High School from Gladewater Texas.
Following that match-up is a much anticipated game between reigning Arkansas Class 6A state champion El Dorado taking on C.E. Byrd.
Byrd head coach Mike Suggs and the Yellow Jackets will be competing in the showcase for the 4th time.
“This showcase has been great for our program, our fans love it, our community loves it and I think it's great for Shreveport,” said Suggs.
Saturday's slate features four games with action beginning at 11:00 a.m.
A lot of buzz for the early game between Parkway High School (Bossier City, LA) taking on Marshall High School (Marshall, TX).
Mavericks Head Coach Clint Harper believes his team faces their toughest test of the season against the Parkway Panthers.
“Well they don't have Brandon Harris anymore which is nice but they do have a big kid, 6'4 or 6'5 that can really throw it,” said Harper.
“Like I tell people, Parkway played for a state championship last year, they didn't forget how to play football. We're gonna really be tested Saturday.”
