SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Another candidate has entered the race for Shreveport City Marshal.

Jim Taliaferro, longtime Shreveport police officer and head of the department's Crime Stoppers, made his announcement Sunday at Mandina's Grill on Fannin Street.

Before Taliaferro spent 34 years in the Shreveport and the San Diego police departments, he served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force.

Taliaferro said that he wants the voters to "hire" him as the leader of that office and he wants to work for them.

"I don't want them to just elect or just to vote, but this is a working relationship," he said. "As you the public, you the citizen, I believe you demand more of an elected official, regardless if it's a city marshal, the mayor, city councilman, this is an employee/employer relationship."

Other candidates include the incumbent, City Marshal Charlie Caldwell; Joey Hester, a one time Shreveport citymarshalldeputyy who worked for Caldwell, and a one time Shreveport police officer; Anthony Johnson, also a city marshal deputy, and a Caddo sheriff's deputy; and Don Otis, a Shreveport police veteran.

The election will be held Nov. 4.
