SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - One of Shreveport's newer CNG-fueled trash trucks has itself been trashed by a fire that damaged it so heavily it will now likely be used for parts.
It happened Thursday morning near McWillie St. and Woodrow St., about a block from the city's public works yard. The driver says he was just about to leave on a route when he smelled smoke. He was able to escape the burning truck unharmed.
Shreveport Public Works Director Stan Harris says the truck, which cost taxpayers $240,000, was among the newest additions to the city's trash collection fleet.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
