SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - An early morning fire caused heavy damage at a duplex house fire in the Highland neighborhood Monday.
The blaze broke out around 4:45 a.m. at a home in the 3100 block of Holly Street near East Kings Highway. Fire officials say they do have the fire under control. Firefighters say disabled woman living in one side of the duplex home had to be carried out on a blanket by firefighters. The other side of the duplex was vacant.
Firefighters say the fire started in one of the front bedrooms in the vacant duplex. The fire caused $15,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials say they do believe that at least one person was staying in the vacant complex illegally and illegally obtaining utilities as well.
