BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - Parkway High School Band members have been disciplined after school officials say hazing was reported on a weekend band trip.

Last weekend, school officials say a freshman band student reported that 8 other band members, all sophomores and seniors, simulated a sex act on him without his consent.

"People may think of it as 'boys being boys' but we take instances like this very seriously at Bossier schools," says Bossier Parish spokesperson Sonja Bailes.

The simulated sex act reportedly happened as the students were walking to the bus heading to dinner. It lasted about 20 seconds.

"It was not actual penetration. Clothes were on, no genitalia exposed. It was a simulated act," says Bailes.

The students involved in the reported act were disciplined, and the band can no longer take overnight trips for another two years.

"Parents were in support of the decision that the principal made. She should be commended for taking swift action," says Bailes.

School officials say this hazing incident did not occur because of a lack of supervision. There were reportedly 20 chaperones, including school staff on the trip.

The school will not say how the students have been disciplined for their actions.
