Wiley College mourns loss of asst. professor

MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) - The staff and students at Wiley College in Marshall are mourning the loss of a faculty member who was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Marshall Police say 36-year-old Dr. Valentyn Siniak died after his motorcycle struck a pickup truck about 6 p.m. on January 4.

Accident investigators say Siniak was heading west on Hwy. 80 when a pickup truck traveling east tried to make a left-turn onto Loop 390.

Paramedics took Siniak to Good Sheppard Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Wiley College offered its condolences after they learned of the accident.

"Wiley College is saddened by the passing of Dr. Valentyn Siniak, an assistant professor of biology at the College. Dr. Siniak was killed in a traffic accident Friday night. Dr. Haywood L. Strickland, (School) President, and the entire Wiley family convey deepest condolences to Dr. Siniak's family. The Wiley College Chaplain and other support staff  will be available to offer grief counseling  to Wiley students, faculty, and staff."

Marshall Police continue to investigate the accident and no citations have been issued.
