SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - An effort to revitalize Shreveport's Red River entertainment district began with a push of a broom and a little sweat from city officials.

The city spent the day landscaping, power washing and removing junk from many of the district's abandoned businesses.

The Red River District, a $26 million development underneath the Texas Street bridge, used to be packed with restaurants and bars.

Now, only two businesses are still up and running, and the area looks battered with trash and vandalism.

Mayor Cedric Glover and city council members pitched in, commenting that they were tired of seeing the area this way.

The city is working to lease some of the empty space.
