NATCHITOCHES, LA (KSLA) - A 19th century Natchitoches bed and breakfast is destroyed by fire and now a full investigation is underway to determine a cause.
The Levy East House was built in the 1830's. However it only took flames a couple of hours to destroy the historic landmark along Jefferson Street near downtown Natchitoches.
"I had to choke back the tears", said 33 year old Chris Levy who grew up in the bed and breakfast. His family sold the business to the East family in the mid 1990's, but the news of the fire was still heartbreaking.
"A part of Natchitoches is gone", added Levy.
KSLA News 12 has learned the Levy East House was in foreclosure and the current owners, Arachnid Enterprises, LLC out of Delaware had been sued by a Natchitoches lein holder. A write of seizure was issued just six days ago. Tuesday morning's fire was first reported at around 5:45am.
"I saw a foreclosure sign on the front door, for them to get out, "says Levy. He added, "But you know rumors in a small town. You hear a lot of things".
The Levy East House is set for parish auction in August. The fire department has not released a cause of the fire.
