SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport Police have made an arrest in the city's latest homicide.

30-year-old Damien Pipkins surrendered to detectives at the Shreveport Police Complex Monday afternoon after learning that they had been searching for him in connection with the shooting death of 35-year-old McDaniel Smith III.

Smith was found shot to death shortly after 4:00 a.m. in the 200 block of Webster street in Allendale.

Investigators believe Smith was involved in some sort of altercation with a woman with whom he had been romantically involved with in the past when Pipkins apparently became embroiled in the dispute. At some point during the melee, police believe Pipkins produced a handgun and shot Smith.

"During the course of the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for a home in the 200 block of Webster Street where they recovered a substantial amount of cocaine and ammunition," said Bill Goodin, Shreveport public information officer. "All of those factors are being worked and analyzed as this investigation moves forward."

Pipkins has been booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of 2nd degree murder. He does not face drug charges at this time but they could be added at a later date.

Anyone who has any information regarding this homicide is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
