Forest fire threatens well sites in Oil City

Forest fire threatens well sites in Oil City

At least six Caddo fire districts are battling a forest fire near Highway 1 in Oil City, where at least 25 acres have already burned as of Friday afternoon.

Fire District 7 Chief, Danny Richardson says the fire is contained. But the fire is expected to continue to burn and smolder for a couple of days.

So far, there is no word of evacuations, but emergency officials say they are concerned about several oil and gas well sites that could be threatened if the flames continue to spread.

If the fire rekindles that would be bad news for exhausted fire crews.

"This is the 2nd large woods fire we've been on in the last 24 hours, most of my guys have been fighting fire almost around the clock", said Chief Richardson.

The Louisiana Office of Forestry has plowed a large fire line in hopes of cutting off the fuel for the flames: extremely dry vegetation.
