SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport Police arrest a man Tuesday for allegedly having numerous firearms while near a Shreveport elementary school.

The suspect, 50-year-old John Wiese of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana was taken into custody by police after he reportedly called into police and requested a patrol supervisor meet him in the 700 block of Thora Blvd.

Over the past several days, police say that they had received intelligence regarding Wiese allegedly making threats toward police officers and that he had a number of weapons in his possession.

When police arrived in the 700 block of Thora, they found Wiese and numerous long guns and a handgun on display. Weise just so happened to be parked within 1000 feet of South Highlands Elementary Magnet School.

Authorities seized a bolt action .308 rifle, a semi-automatic .308 rifle, two semi-automatic .22 rifles, a .460 magnum revolver, a .45 semi-automatic pistol, a 12 gauge pump shotgun and a crossbow. Police also seized 500 rounds of ammunition.

Wiese reportedly told police that he had been involved in an ongoing dispute with a man who lived on Thora Blvd. and he had come to that location to bring attention to that dispute.

Wiese was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of carrying a firearm in a firearm-free zone.
