LOGANSPORT, LA (KSLA) – There has been yet another apparently accidental shooting involving a child in the Ark-La-Tex.
It happened just after one this afternoon in Logansport, LA. Desoto Sheriff's deputies tell KSLA News 12, the boy was out with family when the accident happened. KSLA News 12 has learned the 4 year old's name, Tanner Meyers and family are from Crowley.
Investigators tell KSLA News 12, the little boy and his father were on Bogle road. Just 80-100 feet away, there were two hunters "dog hunting." Desoto deputies said there was a slight 'bow' in the pipeline trail and that's what might have caused a pellet from the buck shot to hit the child.
"A deer came out between them and the road...both hunters shot at the deer...one of the shots missed the deer and struck the child in the head," Cpl. Adam Euwing said.
Now, after the boy was shot—investigators tell us the father and a hunter immediately rushed the boy to the Logansport—Desoto Parish Sheriff Substation, just about 5 miles away.
The 4-year-old boy was airlifted to LSU Medical Center. He's in stable condition and is expected to be okay.
Deputies are still investigating and they said they're probably won't be any charges filed.
