Matt Jones

Meteorologist Matt Jones joined the KSLA First Alert Weather Team in January of 2023. Born and raised in the Denver area, he's very familiar with crazy and unpredictable weather.

Matt has worked in Montana, New York, Missouri, and Wisconsin, so he has a wide range of forecasting skills, ranging from winter storms to severe weather and tornado outbreaks.

He received his meteorology degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver and has also acquired his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society.

Before working in the television industry, Matt was a professional storm chaser and worked for a storm chasing tour company. During his time as a storm chaser, he witnessed more than 70 tornadoes and had a terrifying experience escaping an EF5 that destroyed the town of Joplin, Missouri.

Matt brings extensive severe weather experience to the ArkLaTex with his 10 years of work on-air and his storm chasing background.

When not tracking storms, Matt enjoys working out and staying active. He's also a huge foodie and is excited to try all the great food the region has to offer.
