Victim identified in deadly shooting on South Choctaw Drive; two suspects arrested

One person was killed, and another was injured in a drive-by shooting Sunday, Nov. 20, according to police.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - One person was killed and another was injured in a drive-by shooting Sunday, Nov. 20, according to police.

The shooting happened in the 9000 block of South Choctaw Drive and Oak Villa Boulevard around 1 p.m.

Jessie Johnson, 22, and a 25-year-old front-seat passenger were inside the vehicle when three suspects in a 2015 Ford began shooting at their vehicle multiple times, according to officials.

Johnson died on the scene, and the other victim who was shot multiple times is expected to survive.

Officers were able to chase down the vehicle. Multiple individuals then bailed that car at a business in the 10600 block of Airline Hwy, according to officials.

Jakai Johnson, 18, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon.

On Saturday, November 26 the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Demonte Joseph for his involvement in the deadly shooting. Joseph has been booked into the EBR Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon.
