MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened in the early morning hours of Oct. 20, 2022.

OPSO responded to the 100 block of Dillingham Dr. in Monroe shortly after midnight in response to a reported shooting. Deputies say they found the victim, identified as 31-year-old Kenneth Heckard of Monroe, dead at the residence.

Heckard was previously arrested by OPSO on Oct. 17 and was charged with domestic abuse battery, second offense in relation to a fight with his wife that same day. Heckard posted bond on Oct. 19.

OPSO says Heckard was in a fight with his wife and her son, 19, shortly after midnight on Oct. 20 and during the fight, Heckard was shot and killed.

The son, Kevin Smith, was later arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.

This is an ongoing investigation.
