Father’s Day 5K Run and Walk ‘22 set for June 11
Started by Alex T. Ray to celebrate fathers
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - For its third year, the annual Father’s Day 5K Run and Walk 2022 will kick off on Saturday, June 11.
Why did Alex T. Ray start the 5K Father’s Day run three years ago? He explains in an interview with KSLA that his goal is to highlight fathers.
“We want to be able to let them know that they are important and that we recognize what they do here in our city,” he said.
Commissioner Mario Chavez is a sponsor of the event and one of the lead runners. Why does commissioner Chavez think this event is so important? He wants to celebrate both fathers and mothers. Chavez and other leaders in the community will be there leading the walk to honor fathers and bring positive unification to the community.
“Fathers in the community, a lot of times, they don’t really get the recognition,” he points out. “What I want to do is just unify and have everybody come together for fun.”
The Father’s Day 5k Run and Walk registration is from 7 to 7:30 a.m. in Southern Hills Park, located at 1002 Bert Kouns Loop; click here to register.
Ray says parts of the event are free if you want to attend any of the multiple activities, including:
- Snow cones
- Horseback riding
- Face painting
