Community expresses concern for still-closed animal shelter
TEXARKANA, Ark. (KSLA) - A group of concerned citizens want to know what direction the Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana is taking.
Over the past year, work on a new building at the shelter has been complete. However, before it can be fully used, kennels must be assembled.
The group met on Thursday, March 31 to discuss ways on how to better care for the animals being housed there, and how to get the most from the new facility when it opens.
City Manager Jay Ellington said the main suggestion centered on community involvement.
“The secret is private-public partnership. At least the public, nonprofit partnership that many of these organizations bring to the table for us. And we in government need all the partners we can get,” he said.
Ellington said they will continue to welcome suggestions from the public on improving operations at the animal center.
