TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) - Multiple east Texas school districts have a major decision to make that could affect next year’s school calendar.
DeKalb Superintendent Chris Galloway attended an educational conference in January in Austin, Texas, where the subject of a four-day school week caught his interest.
“We have been working together on a four-day week because it really does impact all the districts around you. In addition, we all are part of Bowie County Co-op, when it comes to our transportation, special education and alternative school,” he said.
At this time, four Bowie County districts are considering shortening their school week. They include DeKalb ISD, New Boston ISD, Hubbard ISD and Malta ISD.
“We are currently in the information-seeking stage on this,” said Superintendent of Malta Schools, Stacey Starrett.
He said this is not an issue school leaders are trying to force on residents, and they are currently taking surveys of staff and parents.
