BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) — Caesars Sportsbook launched in-person sports betting Sunday, Oct. 31.

Sports betting kicked off at 7 a.m. at Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City and Harrah’s in New Orleans. The first legal bet was placed at Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville earlier this month.

Caesars Entertainment Sportsbook manager Quinton Harris told KSLA the first bet made Sunday morning was a $55,000 wager.

“We thought it was going to go live a couple months ago. It looks like they wanted to do the internal controls to make sure everything was good,” Harris said.

Sure enough, the start date for sports betting in northwest Louisiana matched up with previous predictions for the end of this month. These predictions came following setbacks due to Hurricane Ida.

“[People] say they’ve been waiting for this for a couple of years,” Harris said. “They were anxious and amped up to get this going. That’s one of the things I noticed differently in this crowd than other states.”

The sports betting area is temporarily on the first floor. Harris said the permanent location is under construction and expected to be finished early next year.

In preparation for possible mobile betting, one can download the newly newly launched Caesars Sportsbook app. However, mobile betting is still pending regulatory approval.
