Police arrest 2 people, find guns in stolen car after a high-speed chase
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — Bullets claimed a life, wounded at least two other people, struck a family’s vehicle and damaged multiple businesses in Shreveport the night of Saturday, Sept. 4.
The Caddo coroner’s office reported Sunday evening that 13-year-old Kel’Vonte Daigre, of Shreveport, is the teenager who was mortally wounded in a shooting near East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop at Youree Drive just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police found him in a sedan at Regal Drive at Youree Drive.
Daigre was taken to Ochsner LSU Health, the Shreveport hospital where he died at 10:52 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
Two other wounded people also were found in the vehicle at Regal at Youree. They too were taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities described their condition as life-threatening. .
A third victim was taken for treatment of injuries that authorities said did not appear to be life-threatening.
Police say that the gunfire started at 10 p.m. on Millicent Way near Cinemark Tinseltown and XD, a movie theater in the 8400 block of Millicent Way.
They say a family’s vehicle was struck by bullets fired from another vehicle on East Bert Kouns at Youree.
Bullets also struck multiple businesses, including Willis-Knighton Pierremont, a hospital in the 8000 block of Youree Drive.
At another location, on Regal Drive at and Youree Drive, police then found a sedan at Regal Drive at Youree Drive in which a 13-year-old had been fatally shot and two other people others were in life-threatening condition as a result of the shooting.
The two injured victims were where taken to a hospital. A third victim was taken for treatment of injuries that authorities said did not appear to be life-threatening.
Meanwhile, an officer who was responding to reports of the shooting saw a vehicle with its lights off. It led police on a high-speed chase that began on East 70th Street near Line Avenue.
That vehicle stopped in the 700 block of Damaka Drive. That’s between Lanny Lane and Wallace Avenue.
Four males bailed out of the vehicle. Police apprehended two of them. Shreveport Fire Department medics treated at least one of them for a bite from a police K-9 officer.
Authorities report that they found guns in the vehicle, including a handgun and a rifle.
They say that the vehicle on Damaka Drive and the one found at Regal Drive at Youree Drive both reportedly had been stolen.
Police have no other suspects at this time.
A balloon release will be held for Daigre on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. behind the McDonalds off Mansfield Road and W. 70th Street. His funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Sunflower Missionary Baptist Church (329 East Texas Street, Bossier City).
Masks will be required at the funeral and the family asks that no pictures be taken.
