MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (KAIT) - Arkansas State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that was captured on video.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in the 800-block of U.S. Highway 62 in Mountain Home.
According to a news release from ASP, a local police officer shot and wounded 41-year-old Kevin Lee Donovan of Adrian, Missouri, after he reportedly pointed a gun at a bail bondsman and opened fire.
Donovan was taken to a Springfield hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Neither the Mountain Home police officer nor the bail bondsman was injured, ASP said.
Bruce Roberts captured the encounter on camera and shared the video with Region 8 News.
Donovan was reportedly wanted in Missouri on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and unlawful use of a weapon.
ASP said the bondsman had tracked Donovan to a local convenience store. He then called police to assist him in taking Donovan into custody.
When the officer and bondsman confronted Donovan, ASP said he “brandished a gun and began to back away.”
Once they had moved into the parking lot, state investigators say Donovan shot at the bondsman.
The police officer returned fire, wounding Donovan.
Special agents with ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division are questioning witnesses and submitting evidence to the state crime laboratory.
“An investigative case file will be prepared by state police special agents and turned over to the Baxter County prosecuting attorney who will consider the findings to determine whether the officer’s use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws,” ASP said.
Neither the officer’s identity nor his administrative status was released.
