SABINE PARISH, La. (KSLA) — A Sabine Parish man died in a two-vehicle collision about 6-7 miles northeast of the town of Many, authorities say.
John L. Anderson, 58, was killed when his eastbound truck crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an 18-wheeler loaded with logs, Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers said.
The collision occurred the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 12 on the Natchitoches Highway (Louisiana Highway 6), according a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office.
Louisiana State Police Troop E also confirmed that one person died as a result of the wreck.
The crash occurred after the Sheriff’s Office received a call about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday about a reckless driver traveling east on LA 6 east of Many, Rivers said. As the Sheriff’s Office was notifying patrol deputies, the caller reported that the vehicle had crashed into another vehicle in the vicinity of Stoker Loop.
Center Sabine Fire District personnel extricated Anderson from the wreckage.
“An autopsy has been ordered to assist in learning why Mr. Anderson was operating his vehicle in an erratic manner,” Rivers said.
The accident is being investigated by Louisiana State Police.
”The highway is partially blocked; please avoid the area and seek an alternate route,” the Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook soon after the wreck.
The accident occurred about midway between Stoker Loop’s two intersections with LA 6 and had that section of highway blocked for hours. Meantime, motorists were advised to use Stoker Loop to detour around the scene.
