SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Gun and ammo sales are up again in the U.S., and Red River Range Gun Shop Owner Brad Simon says the boost makes it hard to keep the shelves fully stocked.
”We’re still fighting as far as a supply issue,” Simon said.
He say right now gun manufactures can’t meet the demand and just last year his sales were up by 200 percent.
“With everything that’s going on and new administration and threats of gun control measures that can also drive sales,” said Simon.
While he’s battling supply issues, Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator has safety concerns.
“What we see is an increase of shootings, criminals using the guns illegally,” Prator said.
He said the more guns on the street is likely to the increase the number of accidents.
“Some people get guns and don’t have any intent to do anything wrong with them, but they may accidentally have a shooting, and leave the gun in the vehicle and it gets stolen,” said Prator.
Because of this, he urges gun owners to do a few simple things.
“Be sure that you’re familiar with that gun, practice with the gun and you know how to safely use it, make sure that you secure that weapon,” he said.
