SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Members of Congress were ushered from the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, Jan. 6 after protesters stormed the steps of the building.

The protests were in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. The National Guard, as well as state and federal police, were called to the Capitol to disperse protesters.

KSLA’s Doug Warner did a live phone interview with Congressman Mike Johnson, who represents Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District.

The congressman says he was on the House floor participating in the Electoral College vote count when he heard some commotion behind the doors. He says he heard glass breaking, and eventually heard a gunshot.

Johnson says lawmakers were ushered down a series of hallways and tunnels to an undisclosed and secure location at the Capitol.
