SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Louisiana Life Magazine has named a Shreveport businessman as a Louisianan of the Year for 2020.
The team at Great Raft Brewing in Shreveport is celebrating after Bob Thames, brand manager for the brewery, was recognized for his philanthropic efforts in 2020. He was recently named to Louisiana Life Magazine’s Louisianans of the Year list. He’s being honored in the Philanthropy category.
Every year, the magazine finds Louisiana residents doing great things, who stand out in their field, give back to their community, and represent the best of the Bayou State.
The marketing manager at Great Raft says Thames works with distributors, restauranteurs, and bar owners to keep the brewery’s products in stock. When the COVID-19 pandemic began in March of 2020, Thames started thinking about how he could help the service industry, which was seriously impacted by the pandemic. A one-time raffle grew to two months worth of fundraising, and eventually, the distribution of $27,000 into the pockets of unemployed servers and bartenders in the Shreveport area.
“If I’ve learned anything from 2020, it’s that to move forward we have to give back,” said Thames. “Give what you can, to who you can, whenever you can. It’s the only way we’ll all get through this.”
The team at Great Raft says Thames’ community service efforts have been recognized by a number of other organizations as well.
