LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Beauregard Parish officials are strongly recommending residents in low-lying areas and mobile homes to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Laura.
The recommendation was issued Tuesday morning by Beauregard officials, who said if residents remain in their homes during the storm, there will be a period of time - up to 72 hours - when emergency officials will not be able to assist them.
Officials said residents who plan on leaving should do so on Tuesday.
Beauregard issued a voluntary evacuation on Monday for residents living in low-lying areas and those living in mobile homes or travel trailers as Laura threatens the Louisiana coastline.
