MAGNOLIA, Ar. (KSLA) - Southern Arkansas University Magnolia has released the name of the student who died in an early morning shooting on campus.

Joshua Keshun Smith, a senior engineering physics major from Sparkman, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Facebook post, it happened just before 1 a.m.

Three students living off-campus met someone in the parking lot of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus Community Center.

Following a brief discussion, several shots were fired.

Another student injured in the shooting was sent to a Magnolia hospital, according to SAU, he is in stable condition.

University Police have secured the scene. Classes and late registration will continue on Aug. 11.

The incident remains under investigation.

When tragedy happens, we all must come together to reassure our students and campus community of our ongoing commitment to their safety. Now, more than ever, we must find ways to safely comfort one another. We are deeply saddened by the death of Josh Smith. Our prayers surround his family.
