Convicted rapist faces up to 25 years in prison at hard labor

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — A convicted rapist faces up to 25 years in prison at hard labor.

A Caddo jury on Thursday convicted 47-year-old Dedric Deon Mitchell, of Shreveport, of one count of third-degree rape.

The seven-man, five-woman jury unanimously determined that early June 10, 2016,

Mitchell and the woman, whom he had known for at least 20 years, met at a friend’s house early June 10, 2016, the Caddo district attorney’s office reports.

He asked the woman and her sister for a ride home. On the way, Mitchell asked to be allowed to charge up his phone in the woman’s home.

When the woman asked Mitchell to leave, he refused and started to choke her. He then dragged her to her bedroom, raped her then ran away.

DNA was a match to evidence from the rape, prosecutors said.

Mitchell is scheduled to return to Caddo District Court to be sentenced March 10.

Based on his conviction, he also must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
