SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — People across the globe donated more than $400 million to charity during Giving Tuesday n 2018, and this year’s total looks to meet that mark.
Giving Tuesday is a global initiative where people can donate to charities in their community and beyond to support those who need it most.
Sometimes giving this holiday season can mean more than just putting that new tablet or big TV under the tree. Maybe the perfect gift you could give your loved one could be a gift to those in need.
If you’re having trouble figuring out what to get that hard-to-buy-for family member, consider giving to their favorite charity, whether that means the Humane Society because they love pets, or Providence House in Shreveport because they have dealt with a similar situation. It’s a more sentimental gift than a new smartphone.
As a warning, be careful selecting a charity. Make sure you know the organization well before you hand over money to just anyone. Do your research to ensure you’re donating to the right charity and not landing on a fake website.
Also consider donating something tangible like blood to the American Red Cross. What better present this time of year than a lifesaving one?
Evergreen of Texarkana not only will receive donations Tuesday, but they will also decorate community homes of the people they serve as part of this special day.
Lastly, we’re nearing the end of the year and contributing to Giving Tuesday would be a tax write off since it goes to charity. If you’d like to learn more about Giving Tuesday, click here.
