SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — A toddler is fighting for her life after having been shot in the back of her head, authorities say.

The 1- to 2-year-old child and her father were wounded in the shooting Friday evening in Shreveport’s College Heights neighborhood.

It happened at 5:31 p.m. Friday at Linwwod Homes, an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Bernstein Avenue, Caddo 911 dispatch records show.

That’s where police found a vehicle that had been shot multiple times, Police Chief Ben Raymond said.

The toddler was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.

The girl’s father, who was driving the vehicle, was shot in his lower left leg.

Another male also was in the vehicle; there’s been no indication that he was hurt.

The child and her father were taken to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport for treatment.

At one point, police had 10 or more units on the scene between West 70th Street and West 74th Street.

Five remain there.

Firefighters had six units responding to a medical emergency at the same location.
