Elliott: ‘I believe I’m the best.’

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott reached a new deal with the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday morning, making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.

The NFL Network’s Jane Slater was one of the first to report the news.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reports Elliott’s agreement is for $103 million over eight years.

Elliott had been in an official holdout since July 25, when he missed the Cowboys’ flight to training camp.

After signing his contract, Elliot met with the media at the Cowboys headquarters.

“Because I believe I’m the best,” Elliot said when asked why he wanted the large deal.

The biggest thing will be to get Elliot up to speed with the opener just days away.

“He’s in very good shape,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “He looks good, but he hasn’t practiced with pro football players, so we’ll just see how he fits back in. But he’s a quick study. He’s a smart guy, got excellent football IQ. So we’ll just see where he is and adjust accordingly as we go.”

“The heat was a little rough today, but it’s air conditioning in AT&T Stadium,” Elliott said jokingly. “So I mean, I’m just going to keep seeing how I feel the rest of this week.”

The Cowboys play host to the New York Giants in the season opener Sunday at 3:25 p.m.
