LifeShare in need of blood donations before storm hits

Blood donations needed before storm hits

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - As the state of Louisiana prepares for the storm that will soon make landfall — this is the time where hospitals will desperately need blood.

LifeShare is asking blood donors to give blood this week before the storm hits.

“Historically, LifeShare donors have turned out to help after major events like 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and other disasters,” said Regional Director Bobby Carney. “But it’s the blood on the shelves before the rain begins to fall that helps save lives during and after the storm.”

LifeShare goes through extensive testing once people donate blood to make sure its safe to transfuse. This process takes two days so they are urging those who can and want to donate to do so as soon as possible.

LifeShare planned to have mobile drives for the week but those have been canceled due to the weather. Donor centers will stay open as long as it is safe for their staff to be there.
