NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KSLA) - Natchitoches Parish authorities suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash of an all-terrain vehicle that claimed a Marthaville man's life.

Timmy Lopez, of the 100 block of Cotton Road, also was not wearing a helmet while operating the 2006 Honda Rancher 350 on a trail near Marthaville in west Natchitoches Parish, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reports.

Someone who was riding on a trail off Preston Hayes Road found Lopez’s body trapped under an ATV.

The NPSO 911 Communications Center received the 911 call about 5:06 p.m. Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Lopez’s ATV hit a ravine, causing it to roll down an embankment, authorities report.

He was ejected; and the ATV came to rest on top of him.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The 54-year-old last was seen riding the ATV on Saturday afternoon and had not been reported as missing, says a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
