MARSHALL, TX (WAFB) - Two former football players from Louisiana high schools were killed Wednesday, May 9, in a crash near Marshall Texas.

Former Walker High School football star Jacobi Scott, who played quarterback, was identified as one of the victims in the crash. The other victim, Shelvin Keller, was a wide receiver at East St. John High School.

The Marshall Police Department is investigating the fatal wreck that occurred around 6:10 p.m. on US Highway 59 North and Loop 390.

“According to the Marshall Police Department two vehicles were traveling together together on US Hwy 59 North with the intention of turning east onto loop 390,” MPD Lt. Len Ames said in a press release.

The first vehicle completed the turn onto the Loop 390 and the second vehicle followed, that’s when the second vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler.

The car that was struck by the 18-wheeler and was occupied with two passengers. Both of the passengers died at the scene and are residents of Louisiana.

Both were students attending Southwestern College located in Kansas. The school’s president put out a statement announcing the news.

In 2016, Scott led Walker High to a 7-3 record and Class 5A playoff berth, ending the school’s 25-game losing streak in district play. He passed for 2,969 yards and 30 touchdowns, being named the co-MVP on offense for the All-Parish Team with Tyree Golmond of Denham Springs High.

In 2016 Jacobi Scott was named WAFB’s Sportsline Player of the Week.
