(KSLA) - Following a round of storms on Wednesday and heavy rains on Thursday morning, school districts have announced closures.
Elysian Fields ISD
An East Texas independent school district has announced closures for May 9.
All schools in the Elysian Fields ISD are cancelled due to flooded roads.
No word if students will return to school on Friday just yet.
Sabine Parish schools are closed today due to flooded roads.
According to Tammy Luster, Secretary for Superintendent Sara Ebarb, some residents do not have electricity at this time.
Two Caddo Parish schools will be closed on Thursday.
Classes are cancelled at Eden Gardens Elementary, J.S. Clark Elementary, Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy, Pine Grove Elementary, Ombudsman, and Caddo Magnet Middle. Both campuses do not have power this morning.
Herndon Magnet is closed because the campus does not have running water.
“While AEP SWEPCO crews worked incredibly hard yesterday to restore power to schools throughout Caddo Parish, they were unable to complete their work at two campuses due to a second storm moving in last night,” said Mary Nash Wood, director of Communications for Caddo Parish Public Schools. "Crews were forced to hold off on repairs until the storms concluded and have been unable to yet complete needed repairs around CMM and Eden Gardens. The 8th grade trip, which is scheduled to leave today for Dallas, will go on as planned. "
Classes are expected to resume on Friday. Bus delays are being reported with some roads being passable with flooding taking place.
Bossier Schools will have classes on May 9. However, bus delays are expected due to reported widespread flooding in the Parish, according to Bossier Schools Spokeswoman Sonja Bailes.
Buses may have issues getting into some areas, particularly in the Haughton area. Parents and students are urged to use caution and should stay in their homes until the water subsides.
CLTCC Natchitoches and Sabine Valley
CLTCC Natchitoches, Sabine Valley (Many), and now Huey P. Long (Winnfield) Campuses are closed on May 9. All other campuses are open. If a student cannot attend classes, contact the campus to notify school officials.
David Crockett Elementary will not have classes on Thursday due to a power outage. However, all other Marshall ISD schools will have class with a late start scheduled today.
